Dying your hair to suit your skin tone
I'm naturally a dark blonde/light brunette, but to be honest it makes me look tired and ill with my natural hair colour, weird I know! When I coloured my hair red/auburn and it suited my skin tone I was happily surprised, it made me look healthier, bringing out the natural pink in my skin. So now I'm thinking about changing my hair colour to something closer to my natural hair colour but since my natural hair colour doesn't suit me so well I've been looking for advice online about colours that should suit me. And that's when I found this, and then I knew I had to share it with my fellow teamsugars....
"There are a variety of factors to consider when choosing a new hair color including your skin tone, eye color and your current hair color. Choose which of the following categories best matches you in order to find your best hair color:
Light warm skin tones: Your skin has warm, yellow-red undertones. Your skin is ivory, creamy beige, peaches and cream or is light golden tan in appearance. Your eye color is brown, amber, green or hazel. The best hair color for you: Individuals who fall under this category look best in lighter hair colors that have warm undertones. Such hair colors include strawberry blonde, light brown with golden or reddish highlights and beige blondes.
Medium to deep warm skin tones:: Your skin has warm, yellow-red undertones and is tawny, golden brown or coppery in appearance. Your eye color is dark brown, green or amber. The best hair color for you: Rich, dark shades suit you best. Your best hair color is medium to dark golden brown, chestnut, honey brown, copper or mahogany.
Light cool skin tones: Your skin has a cool or blue-red tone to it. Your skin color is best described as rose beige, light pearl or rosy pink. Your eyes are light blue, grey-green, turquoise or grey-blue. The best hair color for you: You should choose a hair color that is ashy or cool, such as a silvery blonde, light brown with wheat-colored tones or platinum blonde. These hair colors are best when paired with lighter ash or platinum blonde highlights.
Medium to deep cool skin tones: Your skin is light olive, dark olive, dark brown or ebony. Your eye color is cool brown, black, blue green, or deep blue or green. The best hair color for you: Your best hair color is dark brown, plum or black and can be accented with plum or burgundy highlights.
Hope it's as helpful to you as it was for me.

Post a CommentGreat post! Isn't it funny how our genetic make-up isn't always the most flattering for us? I have a friend who has black hair and it always washed her out. She went lighter and looks fantastic! I keep trying different tones, so this blog of hints is a big help to me. Thanks, davie.
wilma-Iam fair skin tone. One time I had black hair and my son YUK.That hair don't look good on you. Then went to highlights with blonde and after awhile it didn't look good either so now I have light brown It is Nice 'N'Easy 116 color.
Wow... that was really helpful. My natural hair color is a dark copper brown... but I've been chocolate brown, honey brown, auburn and blonde-blonde. One thing I learned the hard way: Dark colors make me look like that creepy girl from "The Ring": Washed out and sickly.
I have very light skin and green eyes and what it said about my type is very accurate. I'm a natural blonde (light) and I put in medium honey blonde and light/medium brown highlights....without those highlights my hair just seems dull and washes me out.
see i dunno about this one.. i have green blue eyes.. and my hair is LIGHT brown i have had it blonde before and it looks oK.. but MY FAV is super dark brown.. to me it really makes my eyes POP! and i love my eyes so i always want people to notice them! haha
summerbaby- that's me too! technically I fall under the warm light skintone, but my eyes are a blue-ish color so dark colored hair really makes them pop. I feel like red makes my freckles and blemishes stand out more, and dark brown kind of neutralizes that.
Loved it- glad to see I am on the right track!
i have light, warm skin and dyed my hair too dark, so i abused it until it lightened up a bit. now its medium brown and looks great!
about 3 years ago, I had black hair to match my warm brown eyes..but my skin was a pale tan..i looked greenish and sick all the time...then I dyed my hair into a reddish brown and people loved it, I dyed it again to a more red color but I had gotten much darker..I was a golden tan by then, I got tired of my hair and cut off all the dyed hair I had and left my natural hair(black)stay, so I can't wear ponytails anymore and it matches my now dark tan skin...i wish I could have seen this article sooner though when I did decide to dye my hair!
I knew it! I told my sister I wouldn't look that good with red-ish hair. Ashy brown is more flattering for me since I have olive skin. Thanks a bunch!
